News: June/July, 2009
Due soon from the Ponk Media vaults is a Tiny Tim/GG Allin split 7"! Featuring previously unreleased material, this will surely rank as one of the more bizarre (yet inspired) of musical pairings. Few realize that not only was GG a great admirer of Tiny's work, but that Tiny was well aware of GG and had a certain respect for his tenacity... The two actually met in the mid-80's! This promises to be unusual, to say the least. Vinyl out in late June!
Sleepy LaBeef's all-acoustic album "Roots" has been out several months & is gaining enthusiastic reviews worldwide as one of the finest releases of his long & storied career. The album is also available digitally from the usual online outlets.
The long-promised GG Allin "Carnival Of Excess" DVD - featuring a plethora of previously unreleased & unseen material - is nearing completion. We want to do justice to this important GG project, & things are now almost ready. Watch this space for a release date...
Rachel & Junk's latest live shows have been outstanding & those two have hit their stride like never before - the perfect time to enter the studio to commence recording their long-awaited debut wax for Ponk! Check out each one’s solo stuff on myspace in the meantime - you won’t be disappointed.
Our collaboration with legendary punk rocker & skateboarder Duane Peters has led to the founding of Duane's new label Indian Recordings - under the umbrella of Ponk. Things are already moving fast for Indian, with 7"s & the new Duane Peters Gunfight album already out, and a host of further material in the pipeline. The plan is to divert our more "punk" material to Indian, while the more "eclectic" projects will remain on Ponk. Be sure to check the Indian page regularly for developments...
Both the Tiny Tim and the Nervous Norvus full-lengths are about ready to go. The Tiny album - which we recorded with him in 1996 - has been out of print for years; the Nervous recordings are previously unreleased. Both albums have been remastered by Kramer, and will be available digitally prior to their street release dates.
Ponk Media's international wing - based in South London - commenced active operations in February of '09. A series of UK-exclusive releases, which may or may not be issued over there in conjunction with our sub-label Indian, is on course. Thus far the emphasis is on carefully selected punk rock - check the Ponk UK & Indian pages to keep updated...
Euge From The Coast continues his itinerant musical path across the globe as a prelude to his debut release on Ponk. At present he is Scandinavia, but he rarely stays in one spot for long - so look for him in your home-town sooner rather than later...
The limited edition Duane Peters Gunfight/GG Allin split 7" is still available but supplies are starting to run down. There are two versions: USA & UK, each with entirely different artwork (UK version has unreleased spoken tracks by both Duane & GG that are unique to this release).
Now a six-piece, Florida's wedgepiece continue to gain in popularity. The band return to the studio imminently to record the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut "Absolute Bliss". Look for their brilliant new release, Exit L'Amour due out in July. Digital/vinyl/CD.
Things are changing fast around here so - as always - be sure to check back often & thanks for your continuing support... |
